Blossom: The Flowering Season

This year Verona celebrates 75 years of the Veronese Summer Theatre and the Shakespearian Festival, a prestigious anniversary that symbolises the bond between the city of Verona and William Shakespeare as well as Verona's vocation as a city of art, culture and entertainment.

"After last year's 'sowing', which marked the restart, for the 2023 edition I chose 'blossoming' as the slogan,' says the artistic director of the Veronese Theatre Summer, Carlo Mangolini, 'a Festival therefore that sprouts luxuriantly and brings together artists of great talent'.

From 20 June to 13 September the Festival will bring 14 national premieres and 7 co-productions to Verona, a calendar of 48 evenings of live performances, including theatre, dance and music.

A calendar full of appointments to choose from, one more exciting than the other: All ticketing information, as well as the complete programme, is available at www.spettacoloverona.it.

THEATRE
The programme dedicated to THEATRE is divided into three sections;
  • FESTIVAL SHAKESPEARIANO, the primigenial soul of the Veronese Theatre Summer, returns to inhabit the Roman Theatre and other spaces in the city with three shows presented as national premieres;
  • SETTEMBRE CLASSICO, the section of the Festival dedicated to ancient theatre;
  • CELEBRATING, a repertoire dedicated to the celebration of the 75-year history of the Veronese Theatre Summer together with the audience.
DANCE
The dance section of 2023 will be in the sign of Shakespeare, with a playbill that tries to bring timeless stories and characters to the body:
  • DANCING SHAKESPEARE includes two titles inspired by the most famous lovers in history;
  • SHAKESPEARE IN WALTZ, on the other hand, will stage live musical creations and historical waltz rhythms, up to the most recent jazz and popular-contemporary contaminations.
MUSIC
Eight events are scheduled in the musical programme, in collaboration with Imarts for the two seasons of VERONA JAZZ, curated by Ivano Massignan, and RUMORS FESTIVAL, curated by Elisabetta Fadini.
